CENTRAL VIC JUNIOR CLASSIC - December 21, 2012

As part of the SAJG tournament program for 2013...the Central Victorian Junior Classic will be held at Neangar Park GC on February 9 and 10. Last year's events saw a great contest with local Lucas Herbert prevailing in a playoff.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM SAJG - December 20, 2012

SAJG will be closed for the Christmas/New year period and will reopen on January 4, 2013. For those wanting to enter the January events they can still be mailed, faxed or emailed and will be processed asap upon resumption in 2013.

It is anticipated the draw for round 1 at Southern will be available on Monday, January 7.

I want to wish all our our juniors and their families a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to "doing it all again" next year.

VICTORIA TAKES OUT THE CLUB TEAMS FINAL - December 19, 2012

The team from Victoria GC have taken out the 2012 Club Teams title for the third time. Played at Spring Valley in perfect conditions, Angelique Brandt lead the way for the all girl's team by returing the best score of the day....10 up!

Runners up were the team from Huntingdale (lead by Seve Jones with +7) and third place was taken out the Riversdale #2 team (with Liam Hibbert leading the team on +1) in a countback from the Sandhurst team.

LOTON AND WYLLIE VICTORIOUS AT MRJM - December 16, 2012

Doug Loton eagled the final hole to hold out David Micheluzzi and claim a wire to wire 3 stroke victory at the Murray River Junior Masters. In the Girl's section another battle was fought out over the final round with Johanna Wyllie claiming victory over Alex Radevski by the same margin of 3 strokes.

Tory Taylor claimed the overall nett honours with remarkable golf over the 4 days returning a nett total of 261, 27 under par.

LOTON MAINTAINS LEAD AT MRJM - December 15, 2012

Doug Loton has maintained his lead in the boys championship after returning an equal best round of the day, 1 over 73, in tough conditions at Cobram Barooga. Doug is sitting at 5 under par after 54 holes and has a real chance to eclipse Kris Mueck's tournament record of 286.

The girls section sees Jo Wyllie leading by one stroke over Alex Radevski from Mooroopna.

The biggest lead in the tournament belongs to Madeleine Hunter (pictured) who takes a 7 shot lead into the final round in the girl's under 16 section.

Tory Taylor leads the overall nett honours by 3 going in to tomorrow's final round.

LOTON MAINTAINS LEAD AT MRJM - December 14, 2012

Doug Loton from Kooringal GC returned a second round 70 to move to 6 under par after 36 holes and lead by 3 shots from Cobram Barooga's Chris Tomlinson. Best round of the day was returned by 14 year old Cooper Gill from Hamilton with a fine 67.

The girls section sees Jaydon Vaenuku now tied for the lead after 36 holes with Alex Radevski from Mooroopna.

DOUG FIRES AT MRJM - December 13, 2012

The 2012 Murray River Junior Masters is underway with some strong scoring at Tocumwal in the opening round in hot conditions.

Doug Loton from Kooringal GC returned a career best round of 4 under par 68 to hold a one stroke lead over local CBGC hope Chris Tomlinson on 69. The girls section sees another local Jaydon Vaenuku in front after returning a fine round of 74, 2 shots ahead of Jo Wyllie on 76.

Other day 1 highlights were a hole in one on the long par 3 8th hole by Mitch Anketell from Bairnsdale GC, and a stunning nett 64 by Tory Taylor from Long Island.

MONTHLY MEDAL UPDATE - December 4, 2012

The October monthly medal saw joint winners with terrific totals of 5 under.

Frank Vucic (Kooyonga GC - pictured) and Caleb Bovalina (Cobram Barooga GC) both tied for the medal and are joint winners. Highlights were a round of +5 from Caleb and a round of 41 points from Frank.

2012 SIGNATURE TOURNAMENT - December 3, 2012

Another great Signature Tournament was played on the St John course at The Heritage on Sunday, December 2. The course was in the best condition ever and all commented on the quality of the surfaces.

The overall boys winner on the day was Brett Coletta from Sandhurst, who went back to back, adding this year's title to his growing list of victories. We saw the naming of a new girl's champion in Kono Matsumoto from Victoria GC. Kono, a former Rookie of the Year, and at just 13 years of age, triumphed over some more fancied opponents in a terrific display.

Congratulations to all the age division winners also. Many thanks to our tournament host The Heritage, which proved to be a fabulous venue once again.

NOVEMBER 2012

MRJM NEWS - November 1, 2012

This year's Murray River Junior Masters has been confirmed as World Amateur Ranking event through the R and A. Players will accrue points from the event towards a world ranking. The tournament, now in its 9th year, continues to grow and be a much heralded title.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN TICKETS AND CLINIC - November 9, 2012

Golf Australia are again running a competition and clinic with Geoff Ogilvy as part of the Australian Open week in Sydney. There are free season ticket opportunities for the participants and a parent/guardian....so if you are thinking of being at The Open, take a look at the flyer below.

GOLF AUSTRALIA RANKINGS - November 8, 2012

SAJG member Su Oh has just finished on top of the Golf Australia national girl's rankings. It has been a remarkable year for Su with some terrific play across many tournaments. It is the second time Su has taken out this title.

Ben Eccles finished second in the boy's rankings...also a wonderful achievement.

OCTOBER 2012

NEXT STOP THE DUNES! - October 19, 2012

The next event in the 2012 Rookie Series will be played on the magnificent Cups Course at The Dunes on Sunday, October 28. This course is arguably the best 9 hole golf course in Australia and promises to be a highlight of the series.

MONTHLY MEDAL UPDATE - October 18, 2012

The winners of the monthly medal for August and September have been decided, with Kai Shipp (Sandhurst) taking out the medal for August and Archie Nankivell (Medway) triumphant in September.

Kai returned a score of 4 under over her 2 best rounds, whilst Archie's score of 11 under incldued a fabulous round of +9.

VICTORIANS STEAL THE SHOW AT THE SRIXON - October 8, 2012

The 2012 Srixon International concluded last Friday, with outstanding performances from the Victorian contingent. Ben Eccles and Su Oh (pictured) were crowned champions and Ryan Ruffels took out the Sub Junior tournament for the second year in a row.

Su won by and impressive 13 strokes and Ryan won by 14 strokes, as they stamped their class on the rest of the field.

Victoria also won the teams event for the first time in conjunction with JNJG.

JN SRIXON INTERNATIONAL SET TO TEE OFF- October 1, 2012

The 2012 Srixon International tees off today at Maitland GC. SAJG and Golf Vic are represented by the team of So Oh, Julienne Soo, DJ Loypur and Brett Coletta.

The team is in good spirits and confident of a strong performance. The last Victorian winners of this tournament were Aaron Baddeley and Stacey Doggett....so fingers crossed for our players.

There are a number of other Vics up in NSW for the event, headed by Ryan Ruffels anfd Karl Vilips who are playing in the Sub Junior event at Kurri Kurri GC.

SEPTEMBER 2012

CLUB TEAMS SET FOR FINAL - Sept 28, 2012

A wet and lightning filled morning greeted the players for the second Club Teams Qualifier, played at Riversdale GC. The team from Latrobe GC took out the event on a countback from the Centenary Park team in a rain shortened event.

Both teams qualifed for the final along with teams from Riversdale, Croydon, Sandhurst and Victoria. The final will be played at Spring Valley GC in December.

ROOKIE SERIES WINNERS - Sept 25, 2012

A windy morning greeted the players in the ninth Rookie series event of the season, played at Cardinia Beaconhills. The course was a picture as spring has arrived in the foothills.

Tatsuya Ando (pictured) returned the best score of the day with a strong round of 5 over par 41 in the tricky conditions. Mia Lines returned the best girl's score, shooting 42 over the 9 holes.

In the boy's Under 14 section, Tom Jemison and Patrick Coughlan returned the best scores of 46.

SAJG ONLINE COMPETITION - September 14, 2012

We had many entries in the online competition, with about half correctly indicating that Kenneth Lee is indeed the player to play in the most SAJG events, now totalling 76.
We conducted a draw here this morning for all the correct entries, with former SAJG member Michelle Hui picking the name of Tom Jemison from the hat.

Congratulations Tom. Your prize is on the way.

AUGUST 2012

REGIONAL SERIES WINNERS - August 28, 2012

The 2012 Regional Series concluded last Sunday at Sandhurst with the final event being contested over the Champion's Course. The event was won by Scott Maizels from the Heritage, who carded a 2 under par 70 for a one stroke victory over Su-Hyun Oh from Metropolitan.

The Series winners were finalised and announced at the presentation with the 2012 overall winner being James Bannan (Rosanna GC). The Divisional winners are:

Division A - Jeremy Ting (Woodlands)
Division B - Marc Pirzas (Eastwood)
Division C - Byron Brightman (Waverley)

SAJG wishes to thank all players, parents and the host clubs that supported the series in 2012, which continues to grow each year.

The leading Under 18 player from the series to represent SAJG at the JN International is Brett Coletta. The other Vic reps will also be announced over the coming week.

US AMATEUR SUCCESS FOR OH - August 13, 2012

SAJG member Su Oh has just finished her campaign in the US as part of the Golf Australia National Squad. Amongst her success there was her recent finish at the US Amateur where she made it through to the quarter finals....playing against the world's best.

The much heralded title was won by world number one, Lydia Ko, from New Zealand.

REGIONAL SERIES REACHING FINALE - August 1,2012

The 2012 Regional Series is hotting up with just one event left....the final major at Sandhurst. On offer for the Series winner (eligible SAJG member) is a representative trip to the JNJG Srixon International in October, to be played again at the Maitland GC in the Hunter Valley.

There are a number of players in contention dependent upon the final results on August 26. It is sure to be a close contest!

Let's not forget the Divisional winners who will receive their cups to demonstrate a strong and consistent performance throughout the year.

JULY 2012

BURDETT ON TOP AT COHUNA - July 31,2012

Adam Burdett form Rich River GC has taken out the latest Regional Series event at Cohuna. Adam has been close a number of times and took out the event with an even par round of 72, two clear of Brett Coletta. Adam was pleased with the win despite dropping shots on the final two holes.

Division A was won by Mitchell Singh (Sandhurst) on a countback from Georgia Macklan (Jubilee)... Tom O'Brien (Deniliquin) took out Division B on a countback from Aashish Sudarsanan (Sunshine)...and Hayden Favaloro (Rich River) took out Division C with a great score of 41 points.

Many thanks to Cohuna for hosting the event....the golf course was in terrific shape for the event. Congratulations too to David and Tom O'Brien and Darrin and Haydn Garner who took out the closely contested parent/child event.

MONTHLY MEDAL UPDATE!! - July 30, 2012

Pieter Van der Horst (Garfield GC) and Kay Bannan (Southern GC) are the latest winners of the SAJG Monthly Medal.

Pieter's hot month was in June where he returned 2 scores totalling 9 under his handicap, highlighted by a terrific nett 63. Kay had a great month in July where she returned a total of 8 under, with her standout being a round of 43 stableford points along the way.

COLETTA AND DAVIS TAKE OUT SANDBELT EVENTS - July 15, 2012

Brett Coletta (Sandhurst) fired a 4 under par 68 to take out the recent Regional Series event at Keysborough. Sam Marles (13th Beach) and Scott Maizels (The Heritage)also broke par on the day to finish runner up and third respectively.

The Woodlands event saw Connor Davis (Keysborough) victorious after shooting a 2 under par 70 for a one stroke victory over series leader James Bannan.

It was very tight in the handicap divisions with some outstanding scores returned, headed by 55 stableford points from Byron Brightman and 54 points from Anne Chen at both events!!!

KARL PROVES HE'S THE BEST - July 13, 2012

SAJG member Karl Vilips has just taken out the Callaway Junior World tournament at Torrey Pines in California. This tournament is widely acknowledged as the pinnacle junior event in the world.

Karl won the Boys 9-10 yo division by 3 strokes after returning a 54 hole total of 4 under par.

It was a great week also for Su Oh who went so close in finishing second in the girls' overall championship with a 72 hole total of 1 under par.

Julienne Soo finished strongly with a final round 68 to jump into 11th spot, and Minjee Lee from WA also returned a top ten finish. Minwoo Lee who played here in July is Minjee's younger brother.

Ryan Ruffels shot a tournament low 65 in the final round to climb to 8th place in the Boys' 13-14 yo division.

Congratulations to all our juniors on their outstanding play.

SAJG JUNIORS ON TOP IN THE US - July 6, 2012

Victorian juniors, regulars at SAJG events, are starring on the big stage in the US. This week saw the playing of the San Diego Junior Masters, with Julienne Soo winning the the 15-18 Girls, DJ Loypur finishing 8th overall, Ryan Ruffells finishing a close second in his age group despite shooting 10-under and Karl Vilips shooting a 6-under 66 en route to winning the 9-10 Boys section. WOW.......

The Junior Worlds start in 4 days at Torrey Pines, where SAJG regular Su Oh and Minjee Lee from WA, will join the other players above in battling for one of junior golf's greatest trophies.

COMMONWEALTH TAKES OUT FIRST CLUB TEAMS EVENT - July 9, 2012

The team from Commonwealth GC has taken out the first Club Teams Qualifier in mild conditions at Green Acres. The team of Andrew and Ellen Pollock, Harry Burgoine and Jasper Horton combined for a team total of +6 to edge out the Green Acres local team by a single shot on +5.

Other teams to qualify for the final were the Woodlands #2 team, Riversdale #1 and Huntingdale #1.

JUNE 2012

SOMETHING SPECIAL AT JUBILEE - June 17, 2012

It's not often you hear a roar go up from somewhere on the course at a junior golf event. However, it did happen at Jubilee GC when David Micheluzzi struck one of the greatest shots in junior golf. The photographer from the local newspaper was on hand also to capture the moment and we hope to bring you some of those great images over the next few days.

David's tee shot on the 293m uphill par 4 16th sent the watching groups into delight as it found the cup for a hole in one.....yes, on a par 4.

The event was won by Julienne Soo from Woodlands with an even par round of 72, from runner up Zach Murray from Commonwealth GC.

MAY 2012

MONTHLY MEDAL UPDATE!! - May 30, 2012

Cameron John from Sandhurst is the Monthly Medal winner for April. Cameron's combined total of 12 under was easily good enough to take out the medal from Archie Nankivell (Medway GC).

Cameron's hot month was highlighted by a fabulous round of +9, playing off a 5 handicap.

MICHELUZZI MASTERS PORTSEA - May 29,2012

David Micheluzzi form Cranbourne GC has taken out the second major event of the 2012 Regional Series. David returned a solid 72 in cold and windy conditions to edge out James Wendel from Yea GC on 73. Div A was taken out by Jeremy Ting, Div B by Anna Gavardinas and Div C by Bryanna Armao.

A number of younger players competed at Portsea, including 6 year old Ben Powell who returned a creditable 29 points.

Many thanks to Portsea for hosting the event....the golf course there remains a wonderful test.

ROOKIE SERIES NEWS - May 21,2012

Over 60 players competed in the recent Rookie Series event at Oakleigh, our largest ever field. Despite looking threatening, the weather held off with the field just making it in before dark!

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Shanaiah Fernando, again showed her class returning the best score of the day, a one over par 30.

The best boys score was a 39 returned by Sam Campbell-Russell, pictured here after his round.

SAJG thanks all those who played and will look to add in another Saturday at Oakleigh later in the year. There are some other great venues coming up over the next few months.

NEW SAJG DETAILS - April 24,2012

SAJG hs now amalgamated with Golf Victoria. There will be a number of changes moving forward, primarily around event entry procedures, but for the most part it is business as usual. SAJG can be contacted through the Golf Vic office on 8545 6200 and fax 9543 9307. All current entry forms have been updated to reflect this change. General email enquiries and scanned event entries can be sent to sajg@golfvic.org.au For those paying entry fees by cheque plaese make cheques payable to Golf Victoria.

The SAJG website will remain in operation for the foreseeable future.

ROOKIE SERIES HANDICAPS - April 23,2012

SAJG will now be allocating 9 hole handicaps through its Rookie Series competitions. The handicaps are only relevent to theses event and are capped at 24, but provide a number of benefits to players within the various age divisions, along with benchmarking improvement along the way. It is an exciting development for players at this level of golf to be able to compete on both a gross and nett basis, and it is hoped that all will welcome this additional dimension to the Rookie Series.

GEORGIA IS ACE!!! - April 24, 2012

Georgia Nankivell from Medway GC is the first to record a hole in one in 2012. Playing the uphill 17th hole at Medway, Georgia fired her hybrid straight into the hole for the eagle and a 1 on her card.

Georgia joins her brother Archie who recorded an ace back in 2010.

CAMPBELL ACES THE JUNIOR CLASSIC - April 20, 2012

Campbell Hill from Eaglehawk made the trip to Melbourne worthwhile by acing the 6th hole in the recent Vic Junior Classic.

Campbell is seen here at the presentation receiving his hole in one trophy...and he also has a staff bag coming too!

SU WINS AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR - April 14,2012

Carbrook GC in Brisbane played host to the Australian Boy's and Girl's Championships this week. Many SAJG regulars are there competing for one of our biggest junior titles, and it was a stellar week for SAJG member Su Oh, winning the girls championship by 7 shots. Su was pretty excited by her win and indicated it was the highlight of her time in golf to date. Su will soon represent Australia in the Queen Sirikit Cup in Singapore.

MARCH 2012

2011 MEDAL OF MEDALLIST!!!!

Charlie Falconer from Spring Valley GC has taken out the 2011 SAJG Medal Of Medallists. Charlie returned 2 great rounds through January of 5 under and 4 under for a 9 under total. Charlie wins a terrific glass trophy and a lower handicap for all his fine play!

Congratulations too to Ellen Pollock and Antony Majstorovic who both returned 7 under totals. Henry Nakivell from Medway GC made his way into the playoff also by winning the final medal of 2011.

2012 ROOKIE SERIES OFF TO A FLYER!

The Rookie Series for 2012 is off and running with 10 year old Karl Vilips returning the best score of the day (even par 35) to take out the Boys U14 division. Just one shot back with a 36 was 9 year old Levi Sclater from Sale, who took out the Boys U10 division.

The girls divisions were won by Naysa Sohail with a score of 42 and Kay Bannan with a 47.

Beautiful conditions meant strong scoring on the Cheltenham 9 hole layout. The next in event in the Rookie series is at Yarra Bend on April 13.

FEBRUARY 2012

CENTRAL VIC JUNIOR MASTERS

The inaugural Central Victorian Junior Masters was played at Neangar Park GC on Feb 25 and 26, with a field of 67 players taking part.

The tournament finished in dramatic style with two local members, Lucas Herbert and Eric Barclay, finishing tied on 3 under par, 139 at the end of 36 holes. Lucas birdied the first playoff hole to take the title from Eric, who lead after round 1.

The girls section saw Rebecca Wright from Rich River record a 3 stroke win over Georgia Macklan from Jubilee.

YOUNG TALENT TIME AT WOMENS OPEN

The Australian Womens Open is set to tee off this week at Royal Melbourne. There are a number of junior activities planned which can be accessed through the Golf Australia website.

The Age published a story this week focusing on the the best of the young talent in the game, and featured SAJG member Su Oh.

AUSSIES DOMINATE AT JUNIOR PACIFIC CUP

The Australian team for the Junior Pacific Cup has dominated play on day 1 to move into a commanding position. The team is full of SAJG members and lead by team captain Mitch Sheather.

All players had great performances on day 1, with only one foursomes match halved....all other matches went the way of the aussies.....to lead 5.5 to 0.5.

The team comprises Mitch Sheather, DJ Loypur, Sean Ong, Lucas Herbet, Montana Strauss and Julienne Soo. Montana and DJ have both come of strong weeks at the Australian Amateur and will carry that form into this event.

With Day 3 now complete, the Australian team has won the Junior Pacific Cup 10.5 to 7.5. The US team mounted a fightback on the final day, but the deficit was too great. Congrats to the team on a great win.

JANUARY 2012

2012 REGIONAL SERIES TEES OFF AT METRO

The 2012 Series teed off at beautiful Metropolitan GC in very hot conditions. The heat didn't deter the SAJG Signature Tournament winner, Brett Coletta from Sandhurst, who returned a fine 69 to take out the event by 3 shots over Zach Murray from Wodonga.

Division A winner was Kono Matsumoto, whilst Div B points were shared between Connor Brodrick and Ellen Pollock. Jaz Gardner was too strong in Div C with 42 points.

STUART APPLEBY's MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT FOR JUNIOR GOLF

Today Stuart Appleby made a major announcement about the future of junior golf in Victoria. Twenty juniors were invited to join Stuart on the tournament range at the JBWere Masters, hitting shots in front of their golfing heros as the cameras rolled! Shortly after, 5 lucky juniors were able to take part in Stuart's JBWere Masters media conference, announcing to a full media centre that Stuart Appleby Junior Golf and Golf Victoria will in 2012 join to form the development arm of junior golf in Victoria.

Both SAJG and Golf Victoria are pleased with the outcome of the announcement and hope that the golfing community will warmly embrace the move, which will bring about a more streamlined and efficient approach to the promotion, development and administration of junior golf.

VIC U16 CLASSIC WINNERS

Shanniah Fernando and David Lawler have taken out the first Victorian U16 Junior Classic for 2012. David returned a score of 57 and Shanniah a 63 to lead the field at the Aust Pitch'n'Putt course.

Fifty eager players took on the course on an overcast morning, perfect for golf. Boys gross age winners included Ben Powell, Bodie Gardner, Tyrone Thorpe, Ashish Sudarsanan, David Lawlor and Stewart Tennison. Girls gross winners were Angelique Vaxalis, Kay Bannan, Shanniah Fernando and Cheerie Tan.

Biggest smile of the day went to Keally Dwyer (pictured) receiving her Girls U10 nett trophy.

This is one of our favourite events...get your club's juniors/cadets to enter..it's great for all ability levels.

AUSTRALIAN AMATEUR UPDATE

SAJG members had a great day at Woodlands for the first round of the matchplay at the Australian Amateur.

Montana Strauss demolished world number 2, Cecilia Cho from NZ, 5 and 3.

Su Oh won her match against Emily Perry (NZ) 7 and 5.

DJ Loypur defeated J Cabban (NSW) 7 and 5. It must have been a day of great golf from all three to win so convincingly. The girls move into the final 16 and DJ the final 32, with the prospect of playing 2 matches tomorrow.

ROOKIES TO BATTLE IT OUT AT RIVERSDALE

The 2011 Rookies of the Year have been decided... in drizzly trying conditions at Riversdale Golf Club on Friday, January 13 2012.

9 year old Nathan Page (Northern Golf Club) shot 2 over par on the modified layout to win the boys Rookie title, whilst Yarra Yarra's Shaniah Fernando took the honours at the girls Rookie champ. Riversdale hosted the 2009 Final and were wonderful hosts again in 2011. Congratulations to Serena Yong (Girls U14) Kai Schipp (Girls U10), Jack Deftereos Brennan (Boys U14) and Levi Sclatter (Boys U10) for winning their age Rookie titles.

SOUTHERN JUNIOR CLASSIC WINNERS

Justin Ispanovic from Rosanna GC and Soo Bin Park from Kingswood GC have taken out the 2012 Southern Junior Classic.

Justin fired a closing 73 to secure a one stroke win over Jueyi Guo (The Heritage) and Max Everett-Rose from Lingfield Park in the UK.

The Girls section saw 12 yo Soo Bin Park hold off the older girls to notch her first SAJG tournament victory. She fired 2 rounds of 79 to win by a comfortable 4 strokes.

SIGNATURE TOURNAMENT - BRETT & GEORGIA NEW CHAMPS

The rescheduled 2011 SAJG Signature Tournament was played on a stunning day at The Heritage. Whilst the St John course proved difficult, the winners posted record scores for the tournament. Brett Coletta (Sandhurst) is the Boys Champion with a tremendous round of 69, 3 under par. Played off the gold tees at 6400m it was a great round of golf, winning by 6 strokes from James Bannan and Matthew Sellars.

The Girls Champion was equally impressive. Georgia Macklan from Jubilee fired a wonderful round of 73, 1 under par, to win by a comfortable 7 strokes from runner up Kirsty Hodgkins.

BIANCA DOES IT AGAIN

SAJG member Bianca Ling has just taken out the girl's section of the Victorian Junior Masters at the Waverley Golf Club with a four round total of 308. Bianca started strongly with an opening round 72, but was reeled in by Julienne Soo, who finished second, just a stroke behind.

Frazer Droop from Yarrrawonga finished second in the boy's section after returning an even par total of 288, 3 behind winner Beaucousin Teremoana from French Polynesia.
