ANOTHER HOLE IN ONE!

Henry Paye from SA is the latest junior to score an ace in competition. Here is Henry's story:

Just wanted to let you know about my hole in one today (Monday 28th September) in the Hills Interclub Stableford Championships at Mt Barker/Hahndorf GC in South Australia.

I came to the 12th hole after not having a good start (started on 10) and decided to try to salvage my front nine starting with a good shot here. On the 149m hole I pulled out my 7 iron that I normally hit about 155m, but decided to just hit it solidly at about 85%. When I hit it I started it just right of the hole and it was drawing back right to the pin when all of a sudden I couldn't see the ball. When I approached the green I looked in the hole and my ball was sitting in there!!! That woke me up and I played well for the rest of the round with the ace helping me to 37 stableford points.

Great shot Henry!

2009 REGIONAL SERIES FINISHES

The 2009 Regional Series concluded today at Heidelberg Golf Club. The overall winner was Kenneth Lee from The Heritage, beating series leader Jonathan Stella in a countback. It was Kenneth's first overall win in the Regional Series after winning Division C only last year. Great work Kenneth!

In that the event was a 'major' Mitchell also scored himself a bonus 500 points on top of the regular 1500 points.

APRIL 2009

TERM 1 AT YERING MEADOWS

Following the success of the 2008 Championship, the 2009 event has kicked off in style!

The first qualifying event for 2009 was held at the beautiful new course at Yering Meadows - home of the Croydon GC - on Thursday April 16. In wind that bordered on cyclonic at times, the course had a chance to bear it's teeth. Many of the players saw a lot more of this amazing new course than had planned!!

Riversdale GC took honours on the day, with 2 teams qualifying for the Final. The third qualifying spot went to hosts, Croydon GC.

Spare a thought though for Matthew Bellion (Huntingdale) who carded a miraculous +10 (2 under par) and whose score couldn't count....two of the four Huntingdale team members didn't arrive on the day, and in needing at least three players to be able to field a team Matt's fine efforts were all in vain. The only consolation for Matt is that he shot his first 'under par' round and reduced his h'cap from 8 to 5. Well done!

SAJG sincerely thanks the Members and Board of Croydon Golf Club for the opportunity to have played the Term 1 qualifying event at Yering Meadows.

For those clubs planning ahead, the 2009 final has been confirmed to be played at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in December.
