Another great day! Many thanks to The Sands for again hosting the event and presenting the golf course in superb condition. A number of members also helped out on the day to make it truly special for the kids. Stuart Appleby again flew in by helicopter after his 2nd round in the Australian Masters, to meet fans, sign autographs, and present the prizes. As you can from the image library the autograph hunters were out in force! The course once again proved tough, with the winners of the event being Stephen Bongiorno from Ballarat and Laura Griffin from Beaconhills (back to back for Laura!). |

SAJG has joined with Southern GC to host the inaugural Southern Junior Classic, to be played over 36 holes at the beautiful Southern GC in Melbourne's famed sandbelt region.
DAY 1 NEWS... Talented Southern Golf Club junior, Jacinta Brideson, has used her home course advantage to post the best score of the day - boy or girl - with a par round (on the women's card) 73. Playing off scratch, Jacinta was pleased with her round but says there is still room for some improvement. In the girls field she is 2 shots clear of Yarrawonga's Breeanna Elliott (77, also off scratch). |
The testing Southern layout proved too tough for some of the field, and it seems those who know the layout and sloping greens are shining through.
|
DAY 2 NEWS...
Well it is nearly the same story at the conclusion of the 36 holes, but both players were caught on the second day. The overall boys section saw a playoff between Charles Stewart and Sean Ong, with Charles making a great birdie on the first playoff hole to clinch a home soil victory. The girls section was also tied with Bree Elliott catching overnight leader Jacinta Brideson over the final 18 holes, and in great spirit, the girls decided to share the victory. |
Best scores returned on Day 2 were a 75 from Ben Rogers and Shane Marcakis in the boys section and 75s were also returned by Breanna Elliott and Elissa Orr in the girls.
Overall nett honours went to local Arnold Bamroong who returned 2 steady rounds of 71 for a 142 total.
