Stuart Appleby Junior Golf Foundation Vision
The key vision of SAJG is to provide and/or bring quality, fun golf experiences to junior golfers throughout Victoria. Allied to this are the opportunities that the game of golf can provide to Victorian youth at club level and beyond, along with opportunities for career development in golf. In that Stuart hails from Cohuna in northern country Victoria, he is very aware of the difficulties experienced by young golfers in accessing quality golf playing and coaching opportunities. Commonly, families are required to travel considerable distances in order to compete in golf events or to source leading coaching talent and facilities. It is Stuart’s specific aim to remedy this, by creating availability of access to quality services and the provision of quality events within reasonable driving distance of any Victorian child.
Key Visionary Points:
SAJG seeks to establish links with the education sector, enhancing current golf participation opportunities to primary and secondary level students. An academic streaming service is considered part of SAJG long-term functions. Very few secondary and tertiary level opportunities exist for Australian students to combine formal study and golfing pursuits. Working co-operatively with the golf associations, relations with the education sector will be utilised as SAJG grows, to better connect the sport of golf with formal academic accreditation and recognition.
Along with Stuart’s profile and enthusiasm, the committee and management of SAJG present strong industry expertise in the form of golf administrators, professionals, coaches and players. Aligned with this is the inclusion of key education and business personnel.
A point of difference to other junior golf foundations in Australia is that Stuart is a current world-class player, willing to give of his time, presence and energy. Today’s young golfers will readily identify with Stuart and be motivated by the opportunities being provided.
